Caipirinha is a cocktail from Brazil that has now spread worldwide. Caipirinha is Brazil’s national cocktail, made with cachaça (sugarcane hard liquor), sugar and lime. The cocktail is prepared by mixing the fruit and the sugar together, then adding the liquor.
INGREDIENTS
- 60 ml/ 2 oz. Cachaça
- 1 fresh lime (cut into wedges)
- 2 teaspoon cane sugar
- crushed ice
METHOD
- Cut the lime into wedges.
- In a double Old Fashioned glass, muddle the cane sugar and lime.
- Fill with crushed ice and add the cachaça on top.
- Garnish with a lime umbrella and serve with a straw.
NOTES
Cachaça is a Brazilian liquor made from fermented sugar cane juice, which was formerly named as Aguardente “hot-burning water” or “fire water”. It is the most popular alcohol among distilled alcoholic beverages in Brazil. The alcohol content of Cachaça is legal in Brazil up to a maximum of 48% alkohol by volume limited and must be at least 38%.
